Saturday, October 3, 4:30 p.m. Documentary Film at 6 p.m.

Muncie Public Library invites you to explore The Soul of A People, a look at the activities and impact of the Federal Writers’ Project and other WPA back-to-work programs during the Great Depression.

The Kick-Off Celebration will include live music from the 1930s and a tasting table of regional foods. Special kids’ activities will begin at 4:30 in the Youth Services Department. Kids will enjoy stories, crafts and apples while learning about Johnny Appleseed.

Michael Doyle, BSU Professor, will screen the Soul of a People documentary at 6 p.m.

“Soul of a People is the story of the most chaotic and influential publishing venture in history. In the Great Depression, while hundreds of thousands survived by wielding picks and shovels on WPA jobs, a smaller cadre used only pen, paper and the spirit of invention.
